OUR STORY

The Byre was established in 2019 by husband and wife team, Jay and Erin, who were looking to escape the city life and enjoy more time outdoors. The two found a beautiful property with a gorgeous old barn and cow shed ("The Byre"), which were believed to have been used as part of a dairy farm long, long ago.

Both interested in agriculture and a love of animals, the two began their research into possible livestock to return the property to its farming history. It was not long before Jay and Erin discovered the world of miniature Highland cattle and fell in love. After months of speaking with reputable breeders and doing their homework, the couple purchased their first, Muriel, a sweet natured High-Park heifer, who was only four months old at the time.  Muriel was such a wonder, it was not long until their herd grew and breeding was underway.

The Byre has been a wonderful adventure from the start. Jay and Erin have successfully bred and raised a variety of poultry, sheep and cattle along the way. While returning the property to its original farming origins has been a labor of love, it has been amazing to work together to create something so special that they cannot wait to share their own experience with others.
